James F. Scales

Bio: After receiving a degree in packaging engineering from Michigan State University, Mr. Scales graduated cum laude, from the University of Michigan law school in 1987. Mr. Scales was formerly a partner Grand Rapids firm of Mika, Meyers, Beckett & Jones and also served as in-house civil counsel for Kent County. Mr. Scales has lectured and published articles on zoning and land use topics. He has earned the highest rating ("av") from the Martindale Hubell Law Directory. Jim joined Neil Blakeslee and Dave Fry as the the third partner in 2000.

Involvements: Mr. Scales has been active in civic and service organizations. Currently, he serves on the City of Rockford Planning Commission, and has been the chairman for the past five years.

Areas of Expertise: Jim's experience includes real estate, construction, property taxation, contract negotiation, and litigation, including a specialty in municipal law, zoning, public finance, utilities, and related areas.
